Typeset in Linotype Estienne—a distinguished face designed by George W. Jones patterned after sixteenth-century Parisian typography—this edition was strictly limited to 750 copies for sale in America. The volume gathers seven of O'Brien's classic macabre tales, including The Diamond Lens, The Wondersmith, and What Was It?, works that proved foundational to late nineteenth and early twentieth-century American weird fiction. The interior is illustrated with ten full-page monochrome drawings by Hungarian-American illustrator Ferdinand Huszti Horvath, whose sharp, atmospheric compositions capture the uncanny tension of the text, introduced with critical commentary by cultural historian Gilbert Seldes. Produced on substantial laid book paper with balanced margins and fine press presswork, the physical volume reflects the distinguished craftsmanship of the Rudge workshop during the height of the interwar American private press movement. Acquired from the private library of a late National Institutes of Health anthropologist in Northern Virginia, this 275-page work measures approximately 9.25 inches in height, 6.5 inches in width, and 1.25 inches in depth, with an overall weight of 1.7 pounds.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0679/4923/2285/files/the-diamond-lens-and-other-stories-by-fitz-james-o-brien-1932-limited-edition_01.png?v=1789770864
https://patinaandprose.com/products/the-diamond-lens-and-other-stories-by-fitz-james-o-brien-1932-limited-edition
