Crafted in 1987 by Metzke, this cast pewter heart-shaped trivet reflects the late twentieth-century revival of romantic Victorian decorative arts. Founded by Fred and Mary Lou Metzke in Tallahassee, Florida, the foundry gained renown for its expressive casting techniques, producing intricate tabletop, wall, and vanity accessories. This piece centers on a pierced grid lattice framed by an asymmetric floral spray of high-relief blooming roses, delicate buds, and deeply veined foliage. An openwork scroll and scalloped border surrounds the perimeter, creating an airy silhouette that balances sturdy cast metal with ornamental delicacy. The pewter alloy features a satin silver-tone surface accentuated by intentional darkened patination in the recessed hollows, emphasizing the depth and texture of the cast botanicals. Versatile in function, the design serves equally well as a protective tabletop trivet, an accent piece for a vanity or desk, or a charming wall display. The reverse bears the cast copyright maker's hallmark along a textured ribbon banner, accompanied by mold pattern number 996 cast into the leaf detailing. Preserved in very good vintage condition with gentle surface wear consistent with age, the piece retains its structural integrity and crisp casting details. This piece measures approximately 5 inches in height, 5.5 inches in width, 0.25 inches in depth, and weighs 0.6 pounds.
