The Item ▼

Sculpted with expressive character, this vintage tobacciana desk accessory features a recumbent dromedary camel rendered in substantial cast iron with a textured matte black finish. Fitted atop the camel's saddle is a four-post vertical armature engineered to securely cradle a standard soft or hard pack of cigarettes upright. Integral to the sculptural casting is a fluted circular tray that secures a thick, heavy clear pressed glass dish insert designed for easy removal and cleaning during use. Originating during the mid-20th century, figural cigarette caddies and ashtrays of this form gained popularity both as novelty smoking accoutrements and promotional items celebrating the classic Camel brand aesthetic. The weighted iron construction provided reliable stability on executive desks, den tables, and tavern counters, while the separate glass liner protected the painted metal surface from heat and ash residue. Both the iron casting and the glass insert remain in very good vintage condition, showing light shelf wear consistent with age. This piece measures approximately 3 inches in height, 5.5 inches in width, and 4.25 inches in depth, with a total weight of 1.7 pounds.
