The Item

Established in 1775 under the patronage of Queen Juliane Marie, the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory (later known as Royal Copenhagen) is celebrated globally for its masterful use of underglaze hand-painting. This complex technique requires decorators to paint motifs directly onto the highly porous biscuit-fired clay before it is dipped in glaze and fired at extremely high temperatures. The intense kiln heat undergoes a chemical transformation, fusing the cobalt blue and earthen pigments into soft, dreamlike scenes under a glassy, protective surface. The bottom of this piece features the prestigious factory mark, including a horizontal bar positioned directly under the letter "A" in "COPENHAGEN," indicating a precise manufacturing date of 1968.

This particular vase showcases the beloved blackberry or bramble vine design, designated as pattern number 288 and modeled in the classic 43A shape. The vessel features an elegant silhouette consisting of a bulbous base that tapers into a slender, gracefully elongated neck. Hand-painted by a highly skilled factory decorator who signed the base with the blue initials "SR," the front displays a detailed branch of wild blackberries with soft, stylized green and brown foliage, delicate white blossoms, and deep, underglaze indigo-blue ripening berries. The surrounding background is treated with a signature Danish mist gradient, fading from clean, glossy white at the shoulders into a soft cream and pale blue-gray hue at the flared foot.

This piece measures approximately 8 inches in height, 3.5 inches in diameter, and weighs 0.65 pounds.
